About us
Recently Century Carpet & Creative Floors, Inc. celebrated
it’s 20th year. Century Carpet is owned by the husband and wife
team of Jean & Christine Coutu. They have been in the flooring
business for over 25 years.
Even before graduating high school in the mid seventies, Jean was on
his knees installing and learning the business. He spent a number of
years installing for various flooring stores in the area (with his wife
as a helper between children).
Jean & Christine came to the realization one day that the only way
that they could be sure that the customer is cared for properly
throughout their flooring experience would be to care for each customer
personally from beginning to end. So on October 1st 1986 Century Carpet
was born.
In the beginning they were a shop at home service being run out of Jean and Christine’s home in Pepperell.
Jean did all of the installations himself. They both measured and
brought samples to the customers. As time went on the list of happy
customers grew, and so did Century Carpet. Office help was hired, new
warehouse and office space was needed. That is when Century Carpet
moved it’s operation to Lomar Park in Pepperell.
Century Carpet continued to grow by leaps and bounds as word of their
good reputation spread. Once again that meant that Century Carpet
needed to make changes, so that they could be sure that their customers
would be cared for properly. That is when they decided to move to the
Moore’s Lumber building in Ayer. In this retail setting they were
able to carry and show more samples to customers, as well as being more
accessible to customers. Soon they even outgrew that location.
In March of 2000, Century Carpet moved to it’s current location
at 43 Main St. Ayer. Since that time they have doubled the size of that
showroom, moved to a larger warehouse, and hired more employees for the
office, warehouse, and installations. They now have 4 people in the
office, 9 installation crews (each specializing in a certain type of
flooring, and were hand picked by Jean).
Their oldest son now leads one of the installation crews (I guess working with dad during all those school vacations paid off).
Jean and Christine now feel that they have a great team of workers with
the same high standards in quality, workmanship, and customer
satisfaction.
It is the goal of Jean, Christine, and all of their workers that every customer is completely satisfied.
